Welcome to Elder Winter's Blog

Alma 29:9,10
I know that which the Lord hath cammanded me, and I glory in it. I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.

And behold, when I see many of my brethren truly penitent, and coming to the Lord their God, then is my soul filled with joy; then do I remember what the Lord has done for me, yea even that he hath heard my prayer; yea, then do I remember his merciful arm which he extended towards me.

Cierra and Ryan are baptized

It was so fun to open the email this week and find that Elder Winters is staying in Alpine. The work is going so well there and the members have been so good to our son. It makes my heart feel glad that he will be in Alpine for Thanksgiving. Deep down I know that he would be well cared for where ever he is but for now I am thrilled that the Lord still needs his hands in Alpine.

Landon is still Landon and when these pictures came across the screen I was surprised that there was not one of him riding the llama.

Some llama's we found and tried to pet this past week.

Landon will be serving this transfer as a district leader. He has outlined the responsibilities below. He will also be staying with Elder Crain. They are working well together.

I have also been called to be a district leader in the area. That just means that I will be reporting a couple of the missionaries numbers in the area, that I will be in charge of Baptismal Interviews for the area, and that I will get to go on exchanges with the other Elders in the area to see how their companionship is doing. It also means that I will be in charge of conducting training meetings each week for the Elders and Sisters in our area. So I think that this is pretty cool that the Lord and President Pitts have trusted me with this kind of responsibility. It’s going to be a bit of extra work, but I’m excited for it.

Anyways this was an amazing week for Elder Crain and me! We had two baptisms and we found 2 more people to put on date for baptism! Our baptisms were very good ones though!

We baptized this 10 year old girl Cierra Davies,

and this 32 year old guy Ryan Liles.

Cierra's baptism was so awesome. She, single handily helped reactivate her mom who is now coming back from 20 years of inactivity. Cierra's Grandma had the nicest words for Elder Crain and I for helping her daughter get back to church with her grand daughter, but really we couldn’t have taken the credit. Sierra was the light and example in her mom’s life and she was the one that lead the way for her mom.

Ryan’s Baptism was very good too. Words cannot describe how strong the spirit was there. He is such a great guy and it was awesome that he was prepared to get baptized in under a week because we had just met him for the first time last Sunday. But yeah, he was so prepared, and I am so grateful the Lord gave him to us to bring into his gospel.

There are other folks that are being taught and still others that have committed to baptism. Ed is planning to be baptized in a few weeks and at 93 he may be the oldest convert of the mission. We are anxious to hear positive things about this.

Landon has really taken a liking to crochet. It is funny. I stop and think about Donovan and he learned to make leather bags and play the guitar. Landon has learned to crochet and is looking to learn to knit. A mission is a time of learning in many ways. He can make all kinds of things now and seems to really be proud of his accomplishment. Here is another cut from his letter and a few pictures.

So yeah Awesome week! Also I have been crocheting up a storm and I’m kind of addicted.

This is the ear warmer and half of the scarf he is making. He also has made an ipod case and a wash cloth.

This is a close up of the ipod case. I think he has the knack!

I haven’t written in my Journal all week more and I haven’t found any time for letter writing because I can’t help but crochet in my free time! I am happy that I get to stay in the area and crochet with Barbara somemore!

I think a young Elder should always write in his journal and always, always write to his mother. Especially if his mother has written a very direct letter explaining that she should move to the top of the letter writing list, because she needs a very direct explanation of the tie burning experience.

And I think over the next couple weeks I am going to take knitting lessons from Barbara’s South African member housemate! So I am pretty excited... Anyways that’s why I haven’t got to your letter yet about the tie burning... but I'll get to it soon! Well got to go so I can send some pics! Love you all and I miss you too!

Landon

Good stuff - great week. Proud to be a missionary mom!

Utah Provo Mission Map

Utah Provo Mission Map
From Wyomings boarder to the four corners and into Colorado and Arizona there is work to do.

A little history of the UTAH, PROVO MISSION

In the late 1970's there was only one mission in Utah. As the work grew the mission was divided into areas to cover the North and South of the state. On January 1, 1989 the Utah, Provo mission was formed from a division of the Salt Lake City North and South missions. President Magnusson was called to open the mission. Today President Neil Pitts serves as President.

The area the mission currently covers was for the most part in the former Utah, Salt Lake City South Mission. During the time President Humphreys lead the mission, it was expanded to include Blanding, Monticello and Montezuma Creek. At this point the mission area took in all of Utah south of the Uintah Mountians.

With the creation of the Utah Salt Lake City South Mission the northern area of the mission was altered slightly. In addition Panaca and Mesquite Nevada were moved to the Nevada, Las Vegas Mission.

On July 1, 2010 the Utah Provo Mission was divided again. In this split the Utah, St George Mission was created. There are a large number on non-members that live in the St. George area and more are moving in. As you can see from the map below the Utah, Provo Mission will cover a realtively small area but there will still be much work to do.
