Alma 29:9,10
I know that which the Lord hath cammanded me, and I glory in it. I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.

And behold, when I see many of my brethren truly penitent, and coming to the Lord their God, then is my soul filled with joy; then do I remember what the Lord has done for me, yea even that he hath heard my prayer; yea, then do I remember his merciful arm which he extended towards me.

A Christmas Phone Call

One of the highlights of Christmas day was speaking with our son. It is such a thrill to hear his voice. More important is the joy and contentment that I heard in his voice when he was asked if he is truly happy. This experience is deep and meaningful and life changing. As a family we are so very proud of him.

We learned some interesting facts about his new assignment. He and Elder Allen will be covering four wards. They will have the Asian, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese wards. The Asian ward is the only one that will be speaking English. The remainder of the wards will require translation headsets. He and Elder Allen will not be required to learn the languages with the exception of greetings. They will work with Return Missionary Translators as they teach very simple discussions. He said he may get new name tags that are in the appropriate languages.

With this assignment the two missionaries can travel anywhere in the mission to teach anyone that is Asian. He was excited to hear this as he can now return to Alpine and teach the Asian investigators he was working with there.

Elder Allan reminds Elder Winters of a cross between EB Olmstead and his cousin Donovan. The two get along well and are ready to have the students back on campus so they can get to work.

It will be exciting to experience this transfer with Elder Winters.

Here are a few pictures of his Christmas and a peek into the activities he was invited to attend. The Elders were also invited to spend Christmas Eve with a member family in Alpine. They had a good time and I express my gratitude to all that opened their homes to our son over this holiday season.

All the presents I got! Thank you so much! I love you guys!

So yeah after we played air plane face attack for a couple hours we went to dinner and this guy picked us up and took us to his in laws log cabin which is built just next to the Sundance ski resort! Where the Sundance film festival originated! The cabin was so nice and so was the family! The grandparents were ex mission presidents in Paraguay in 1999. So it was fun to hear some of their stories, and watch some of their Christmas videos from when they were in Paraguay. We left early and the guy who picked us up gave us a little tour around the Sundance ski resort.

Looks like the dollar store toys were a big hit.

It was fun and my companion said it was the Best Christmas he has ever had. It was a pretty good one for me too and I don’t think I will ever forget it! So 2 mission Christmas's down only one more to go!

Anyways I better get going! The missionary work here in the Asian area is going well though! We found 4 new investigators this week! And taught a good amount of lessons for it being winter break! The Asian wards were pretty fun to go to but it is pretty hard not to fall asleep listening to the translators over the headphones! But yeah I love this area and my new investigators all ready! I can’t wait to see how they progress! Anyways got to go! Love you tons and talk to you later!

Utah Provo Mission Map
From Wyomings boarder to the four corners and into Colorado and Arizona there is work to do.

A little history of the UTAH, PROVO MISSION

In the late 1970's there was only one mission in Utah. As the work grew the mission was divided into areas to cover the North and South of the state. On January 1, 1989 the Utah, Provo mission was formed from a division of the Salt Lake City North and South missions. President Magnusson was called to open the mission. Today President Neil Pitts serves as President.

The area the mission currently covers was for the most part in the former Utah, Salt Lake City South Mission. During the time President Humphreys lead the mission, it was expanded to include Blanding, Monticello and Montezuma Creek. At this point the mission area took in all of Utah south of the Uintah Mountians.

With the creation of the Utah Salt Lake City South Mission the northern area of the mission was altered slightly. In addition Panaca and Mesquite Nevada were moved to the Nevada, Las Vegas Mission.

On July 1, 2010 the Utah Provo Mission was divided again. In this split the Utah, St George Mission was created. There are a large number on non-members that live in the St. George area and more are moving in. As you can see from the map below the Utah, Provo Mission will cover a realtively small area but there will still be much work to do.
