Alma 29:9,10
I know that which the Lord hath cammanded me, and I glory in it. I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.

And behold, when I see many of my brethren truly penitent, and coming to the Lord their God, then is my soul filled with joy; then do I remember what the Lord has done for me, yea even that he hath heard my prayer; yea, then do I remember his merciful arm which he extended towards me.

I am Going to BYU Asian Area

Things are really exciting for Elder Winters and his new assignment. I guess this is one of the areas of the mission that most Elders hope to be able to serve in. I can't wait to hear all about it in the Christmas call.

12-20-10
Hey!

So this week has been so good! Let’s see... this week we had a Christmas party, and transfer calls. I will start with the transfer calls because that is what I am most excited about. So yeah the call actually came a day early because of Christmas coming up and Saturday night I got the call from the AP's that I will be serving on BYU campus in the Asian Area. I guess the Asian ward is actually the biggest ward on campus and so what it means to be in the Asian area is that I will still be on campus but I will only be teaching, and eating dinner with, and correlating with Asians! It doesn’t mean that I have to learn Chinese but I will just have to get used to teaching very very simply with a RM/translator/fellowshipper. I can not even begin to tell you how excited I am to be going to this area! I did not think that I would even be lucky enough to serve in this area my whole two years but the fact that I get to go just leaves me speechless. I love Chinese food! I am way excited too because Elder Brannock is going to be my District Leader and we will actually be able to do a lot of stuff together. Like he said that every Wednesday night both of our companionships usually set up a booth in the Wilkinson center to try and get referrals. It’s going to be awesome! I am so excited to start teaching the Asians! I mean some of my favorite lessons since I have been out on my mission have been with the exchange students I have taught such as Toey, and Rista from Thailand and Suchi from China. I am definitely going to try and learn as much of these languages as possible! O yeah, and I will also be follow up training as well! I forgot the Elders name that I will be with but I think its Elder Allen. I will have to get back to you with that when I talk to you on Christmas. So yeah since I am follow up training and since the transfer is happening a day early this week I will actually have to go to a trainers meeting around 5 tonight and since I will be serving around the mission home they are just having me spend the night at the mission home tonight. So this is my last day with the Hendershot’s... sad... But I’m excited to get a Sister Pitts breakfast Tuesday morning! So as for the package that you sent to the Hendershot’s, if I get it today I will tell Sister Hendershot to email you, but if I don’t you might want to email her and see if she can re-route the package to the mission office somehow.

YIKES!!! If you refer back 2 letters you will find that Elder Winters said transfers were on the 22nd. Who changed the rules without telling us? Everyone put their packages in the mail and paid extra to have them arrive on or before the 22nd. Now he is leaving Alpine on the 20th. The adrenaline in rushing in and we are scrambling. Thank goodness for Jennifer Hendershot and her kindness. She told me in a call Monday evening that she will make sure his gifts get to the mission home so he will have them for Christmas.

Also this week was the mission Christmas party! We got to watch Toy Story 3! It was awesome! It made me so trunky. I miss movies a lot and so whenever we watch one for the holidays it just makes me want to catch up on all of the movies I have been missing. But luckily we have been watching all these movies in the evening and the trunkyness always goes away by the following morning when we have to wake up at 6:30 to read scriptures. We also played games, and there was a talent show, and we had a really good dinner!

And President Pitts shared an Amazing Christmas thought! I swear that man is going to be an apostle some day! It is going to be cool serving so close to him on campus!

One of the highlights of the week was the sacrament meeting we went to in Cedar Hills yesterday! They put on the best Christmas Program I have ever heard! It was so good and the people in the choir had amazing voices! What made it so good was their selection of music! My favorite was this song they sang accompanied by the piano and violins and it was a version of the first noel that was sung to the tune of Cannon in D. I was blown away! It was so good.

Wow he must have been paying attention in choir class all those years. Way to go Elder.

Utah Provo Mission Map

Utah Provo Mission Map
From Wyomings boarder to the four corners and into Colorado and Arizona there is work to do.

A little history of the UTAH, PROVO MISSION

In the late 1970's there was only one mission in Utah. As the work grew the mission was divided into areas to cover the North and South of the state. On January 1, 1989 the Utah, Provo mission was formed from a division of the Salt Lake City North and South missions. President Magnusson was called to open the mission. Today President Neil Pitts serves as President.

The area the mission currently covers was for the most part in the former Utah, Salt Lake City South Mission. During the time President Humphreys lead the mission, it was expanded to include Blanding, Monticello and Montezuma Creek. At this point the mission area took in all of Utah south of the Uintah Mountians.

With the creation of the Utah Salt Lake City South Mission the northern area of the mission was altered slightly. In addition Panaca and Mesquite Nevada were moved to the Nevada, Las Vegas Mission.

On July 1, 2010 the Utah Provo Mission was divided again. In this split the Utah, St George Mission was created. There are a large number on non-members that live in the St. George area and more are moving in. As you can see from the map below the Utah, Provo Mission will cover a realtively small area but there will still be much work to do.
