Alma 29:9,10
I know that which the Lord hath cammanded me, and I glory in it. I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.

And behold, when I see many of my brethren truly penitent, and coming to the Lord their God, then is my soul filled with joy; then do I remember what the Lord has done for me, yea even that he hath heard my prayer; yea, then do I remember his merciful arm which he extended towards me.

Dessert for Elder H. Landon Winters

Wednesday evening April 21, 2010 Elder Winters was set apart as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was an amazing evening full of testimony and tender spiritual moments. Thank you to President and Sister Gilbert for welcoming us to their home for this experience. It was wonderful to have Bishop Mecham, Joe and Kiera and Kate, Jared and Courtney, Jade, T, Sean, Kyra, Chris, Mom and Dad there to celebrate this moment. John thanks for your effort to be there as well. I know there are many others, family and friends, that were there in their hearts. It was expressed in conversation tonight by Landon that each of you are a part of him being where he is today. Landon and our entire family extend our thanks to everyone that has offered love and support to this amazing missionary.

Following the setting apart President Gilbert asked me to share one quality that Landon has that I most admire. I had had a feeling that I would be asked to share something but I did not anticipate this question. It is at moments like this that I wish I was an on the spot thinker, but I am not. There are many qualities in each of my children that I admire and now I have been asked to identify one. I shared some tender feelings but have pondered since that day what one word could describe the quality I described. At breakfast the next day it came to me. LOYALTY. Landon is loyal to his family. He is loyal in his friendships but most importantly he is loyal to his Father in Heaven and his Savior. That is what will make him a great missionary. As he teaches with the power he was promised and remains obedient and loyal he will be a great instrument in the hands of the Lord.

A few weeks ago Tyler said he should make a cake for Landon before he left and sent a photo of the suggested masterpiece. In the final moments of Wednesday afternoon, realizing that I was short dessert for our celebration dinner, I thought why not jump in the cake pool with Tyler and make this special cake. With the help of Sherylee and Kiera the mission was accomplished.

Just kidding!! haha Here is the real cake.

It looked great and from the silence that ensued after it was cut one is left to assume that it was enjoyed by all that love chocolate. One suggestion - put cut up Snickers in the filling. Pass the milk please!!!

After the sugar rush ended it seemed like the perfect time to capture a family shot. We missed John and Carla, Taryn and Brett on this one.

Check out the cute girl he is leaving behind....

Utah Provo Mission Map

Utah Provo Mission Map
From Wyomings boarder to the four corners and into Colorado and Arizona there is work to do.

A little history of the UTAH, PROVO MISSION

In the late 1970's there was only one mission in Utah. As the work grew the mission was divided into areas to cover the North and South of the state. On January 1, 1989 the Utah, Provo mission was formed from a division of the Salt Lake City North and South missions. President Magnusson was called to open the mission. Today President Neil Pitts serves as President.

The area the mission currently covers was for the most part in the former Utah, Salt Lake City South Mission. During the time President Humphreys lead the mission, it was expanded to include Blanding, Monticello and Montezuma Creek. At this point the mission area took in all of Utah south of the Uintah Mountians.

With the creation of the Utah Salt Lake City South Mission the northern area of the mission was altered slightly. In addition Panaca and Mesquite Nevada were moved to the Nevada, Las Vegas Mission.

On July 1, 2010 the Utah Provo Mission was divided again. In this split the Utah, St George Mission was created. There are a large number on non-members that live in the St. George area and more are moving in. As you can see from the map below the Utah, Provo Mission will cover a realtively small area but there will still be much work to do.
