Plastic bag stop. Do you ever stop and wonder what the purpose of the exercise is? Does having the liquids in a plastic bag make us safer? As the mom it is one more stop that allows us to linger a little longer. We were waiting for dad to come in from parking as well, so stuff that bag.
After the bag was prepared Landon and I were standing waiting. A security guard approached us and said, "Looks like we have a missionary". He asked Landon where he was going. After he heard the answer he promptly told us that Provo is no where to go for a mission. He said that you need to go somewhere where you can learn a second language. Interesting perspective - as there are many places around the world where English is the principle language. We assured him that there would be a culture to learn so all was not lost.
A few young men checked into the security line while we were waiting as well. They looked over at us and smiled, then looked at each other and made a comment. It was obvious that they were return missionaries and our experience had re-kindled a memory of their own. It was interesting to me as we walked through the airport the number of people that slowed down and focused on the name tag on Landon's suit. Most seemed genuinely curious and a smile followed the glance. I would think from what I saw that most people would respect the work missionaries do.
So long to mom and dad. Thanks for the ride to the airport. It is a quiet morning at Sky Harbor so we have a minute before security calls. The sun is shining and the air is cool. Who could ask for a better day.
The time has come so off he goes! I guess he did not get the memo - we needed one last turn for the perfect photo op.
Stop for a preliminary security scan. Terminal Three is a nice one to fly out of as I have never seen the security lines out of control.
Right on time at 7:30 am Thursday, April 22, 2010 Delta Airlines pushes the airbus back from the gate as it prepares to depart for Salt Lake City, Utah. Precious cargo on board as the aircraft carries 2 missionaries along with other passengers, to their destination.
Mom and Dad sorted out the emotions of the day with a medicinal breakfast at Crackers. We will surely miss having Landon here at home to share in everyday family things and yet there is no where in the world we would rather him be at this moment. To serve his Savior and share the message of peace, joy and happiness is a privilege that I know will bless his life as well as those that he has opportunity to serve.
