Favorite Scripture

Alma 29:9,10
I know that which the Lord hath cammanded me, and I glory in it. I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.

And behold, when I see many of my brethren truly penitent, and coming to the Lord their God, then is my soul filled with joy; then do I remember what the Lord has done for me, yea even that he hath heard my prayer; yea, then do I remember his merciful arm which he extended towards me.

Teaching in Unity

This letter is one of my favorites. As Landon explained the experience he had during the lesson with He Sam Me my soul soared. It is amazing how the Spirit works and the testimory such experiences bring. Also to know those we love on the other side of the veil are so very close at hand at any given time.

Over the past few weeks I have found myself feeling that a mission experience is in some ways a little piece of millenial life. I fully realize being on a mission does not illiminate the evil all around or the temptations of life but I have also come to realize that obedience to mission rules brings a different level of the Spirit to your life. Just like going to the temple brings a little bit of terrestial living into our mortal life being obedient and living so close to the spirit as a missionary brings a new level of living here. The millenium will be so amazing as the Lord governs and the ability to teach the gospel is all around us. I believe the unity we feel in teaching opportunities at that time will look a lot like what Landon has experienced this week.

I am proud of how Elder Allan and Landon have worked so hard and with such unity. They have been great servants. Good luck to Elder Allan as he moves to America Fork. He is a missionary with a strong vibrant testimony and will find success where ever he is called to serve. I appreciate him for all he brought to this companionship. Thank you Elder.

Hey!

So this has been one amazing week! I'll start with transfers! I’m staying! Elder Allan is off to American Fork. And my new companion is going to be Elder Thompson from Alaska! I’m so Happy about this! Seriously this is like the luckiest transfer calls ever. Elder Thompson and I were serving together for about three transfers in Alpine. He was serving in Lehi and was the district leader for one of those transfers and he was the one who introduced me to the Whipple’s. He is from Alaska and has been out for about a year and a half, and I know we are going to be so successful together and have probably too much fun. It’s going to be amazing!

Tuesday we went to the Temple with the District for one last time before transfers, and on Wednesday we just had a ton of great lessons.

Thursday night after dinner was amazing too. So it will get it’s own paragraph. We had an amazing lesson with our Japanese investigator Hi Sa Me (Hey Sammy).

She has been taking lessons for a while and every time we teach her the spirit just takes over completely. Heavenly Father wants this girl baptized so badly. I know this because her lessons are just so powerful. However in this lesson we were inconspicuously going over the baptismal interview questions to prove to her that by the standards which have been set by the prophet that she was ready to be baptized. But as we got to the third question about repentance, the lesson switched gears and we just focused on repentance and Baptism. I was most taken back however when Elder Allan was teaching a bit about Baptism. I was thinking in my head and with my heart as to what I needed to say to Hi Sa Me next and was praying in my heart for Heavenly Father to guide my thoughts and words, and what came to my head was that we needed to talk about being representatives of Jesus Christ, That we needed to tell her that her Heavenly Father wants her as apart of his kingdom, and that her ancestors and her father who passed away a couple of years ago are all waiting for her to make this decision, and that they were there present with us in the lesson. I knew these thoughts were bold but I knew they had to be said. However before I could get them out of my mouth my companion took every word out of my mouth. He spoke word for word the 5 or 6 sentences I was thinking about in my head and expounded on them further. At that point all I could do is just sit back and marvel at the Spirit and the importance of our work. I have had this happen with turning to the same scripture before or a companion who was guided to teach a principle out of order as I would have done, but I haven't experienced anything like this before. I am not even kidding it was word for word exactly how I was thinking about it in my head. So I just sat back and started to tear up. I was so happy at that point to be serving with Elder Allan and teaching in such unity! I know that it was not coincidence that he spoke the things I was thinking. Those thoughts and those words were not my thoughts or Elder Allan’s words. They were the Saviors. And we are his servants and through the power of the Holy Ghost they were given to us at the very time that they needed to be said. The spirit filled that room as I testified to what Elder Allan said, and no one could Deny the power of that feeling. It was so Amazing and just testified to me of the truth that we speak as missionaries and the sacredness of our calling.

Anyways, the week just got better after that!

We were able to go to the Temple with some recent converts on Saturday Morning and the temple workers gave us a front of the line pass because we were missionaries! It was so cool! It was just the second time going for both of them, but we went with Ju Young and Johnathan. Johnathan was baptized just before I got here but we have been having some awesome follow up lessons with him and he is preparing for a mission at age 23. He is only a little Asian and is from California but his conversion story is incredible. He actually shared it as he gave it at the Saturday session of his stake conference later on that day. That talk was amazing too! But yeah the temple with recent converts is Amazing! That was my first time doing the Baptisms and the confirmations in the temple as well, and it just took me back to my youth in the 12 Oaks 1st ward.

And also on Saturday we had 2 more baptisms! 2 Koreans! One is named Hyejeung (hey Jung) or we referred to her as Christina most the time. And our second Baptism was Jiho! Both were such perfect investigators.

Christina was my first missionary contact Baptism. All the other baptisms I have had so far have been member referrals! Crazy eh?

And Jiho was perfect! He didn’t want baptism at first but with the conviction to find out and through reading and praying about baptism every day he found out that this was all true and got baptized in just under 3 weeks! Both the baptisms were great!

Utah Provo Mission Map

Utah Provo Mission Map
From Wyomings boarder to the four corners and into Colorado and Arizona there is work to do.

A little history of the UTAH, PROVO MISSION

In the late 1970's there was only one mission in Utah. As the work grew the mission was divided into areas to cover the North and South of the state. On January 1, 1989 the Utah, Provo mission was formed from a division of the Salt Lake City North and South missions. President Magnusson was called to open the mission. Today President Neil Pitts serves as President.

The area the mission currently covers was for the most part in the former Utah, Salt Lake City South Mission. During the time President Humphreys lead the mission, it was expanded to include Blanding, Monticello and Montezuma Creek. At this point the mission area took in all of Utah south of the Uintah Mountians.

With the creation of the Utah Salt Lake City South Mission the northern area of the mission was altered slightly. In addition Panaca and Mesquite Nevada were moved to the Nevada, Las Vegas Mission.

On July 1, 2010 the Utah Provo Mission was divided again. In this split the Utah, St George Mission was created. There are a large number on non-members that live in the St. George area and more are moving in. As you can see from the map below the Utah, Provo Mission will cover a realtively small area but there will still be much work to do.
